Representation that Matters
We believe that all children should be able to see themselves reflected in the pages of the books they read and that those books should come from an authentic voice.
Only 12% of children's books feature a Black main character and only 7% of those books are actually written by Black authors!
Selah created Penelope the Pirate Princess because she couldn't find any books that had characters that look like her doing the things that she loves doing... it doesn't get more Authentic than that!
A Uniquely Fun Origin Story!
When Selah was 5 years old she had been asking her father to help her write a children's book. So, when her dad found himself out of work Selah pointed out...
"Now that you don't have a job anymore, you can help me write my books!"
